My First RV Trip

This is a story of how fear turned to laughter during my first RV trip.

The sun was soaking up the day, perfect weather for a RV trip. As I headed out on the open road with my family I was prepared for a fun-filled trip full of adventures. Things were going well as we boasted music and enjoyed the scenery that passed us by. What could possibly go wrong when everything was going right! As the day turned to night nothing could dampen the mood on this voyage – nothing but a flat tire in the middle of nowhere.
It had only been about 15 minutes into our ordeal and I wasn’t surprised to see my cousin freaking out already! The constant badgering to investigate the noises outside the RV were persistent. Little did she know she would be in for a surprise. As I headed outside the RV to see the situation, my cousin followed. I pointed in the direction of a dark shadow amongst the tall pines. I shouted at the top of my lungs trailed by screams from her. She had slipped and fell as I ran to lock her out of the RV. As the rest of us chuckled hysterically she wasn’t too impressed. Cruel? Sure. Worth it? Definitely. Eventually she was able to laugh about it, after her heart stopped racing. As for the dark shadow, it was an elk.

What are the Best Resorts in Ontario?

Are you on the search for some of the best resorts in Ontario? I would like to know about them too!

As I talked about in one of my earlier posts, one of the best resorts I found was the JW Marriott the Rosseau Muskoka Resort & Spa on the Muskoka lakes. But I am sure there are more Ontario resorts ready to be discovered!
What are the best types of resorts? Whether you are looking for a hotel, lodge or cottage resort, each has their benefits. After doing some research, I was able to pinpoint some of the best resorts Ontario has to offer.

Cottage Resort: Blue Mountain Lodge – Perfect for a family vacation, Blue Mountain Lodge overlooks Lake Kasshabog nestled among tall pines. Perfect for relaxation, swimming and/or dining lakeside.

Resort Hotel: JW Marriott the Rosseau Muskoka Resort & Spa

Resort Lodge: Trillium Resort & Spa – Open year round, Trillium Resort & Spa offers up serene and active experiences. Hiking, meditation and cross-country skiing are just a few of the things available to your disposal at this remarkable lodge. Be sure to check it out!

What is your favourite Ontario resort? Any recommendations for visitors to the province?

The One That Got Away (My Thunder Bay Fishing Story)

I love to fish; I especially love to fish the great lakes. Some of the best is Lake Superior fishing, it simply cannot be beat! This is my story of the one that got away and yes it was the biggest fish ever.
It was a beautiful summer day in the middle of Ontario on the greatest lake of them all, Lake Superior. If you have not been to Thunder Bay I suggest you go one reason is that it’s a beautiful city the other is because Thunder Bay Fishing is the greatest. You have 100’s of little lakes and of course Lake Superior, which has great fishing. Now to my story of the one that got away, I was using a down rigger and an 8 foot rod with a devil spoon as fishing tackle. It was like any other normal day with a slight breeze and calm waters. Then all of a sudden my rod went crazy and right then I knew it was a big fish. I battled and battled with it for about 20 minutes. Then with the sun perhaps shining as bright as it has all summer I saw the belly of the beast about 20 feet from my boat. It then took a deep dive underneath the belly of my boat which is a fisherman’s worst nightmare; I knew I was in trouble! Five minutes later it surfaced again and looked me straight in the eye as if to look at me so he could tell all his friends the look I had on my face, when he spit out the hook. Then like he was just having fun with me all along opened his mouth and spit out my hook and darted into the deep black abyss. It took a minute for it to sink in and a slight tear down my cheek until I realized what really just took place. But alas there are more days and more battles to look forward, but somewhere in me still thinks that, that fish is somewhere in that lake having a beer with his pals laughing at me.

Do you have any stories of the one that got away?

Ontario RV Dealers Association

Before you take a RV trip in Ontario in is very important to know all the RV regulations and also contact the Ontario RV dealers association for any news updates that might affect your trip.
Many people make the mistake of not keeping up to new RV regulations in Ontario. This is of course a huge mistake as it can lead to huge fines and penalties, something that would for sure ruin a family’s trip through this beautiful province. There is a great web site witch is liked here http://www.ontariorvda.ca/ , this web site will keep you up to date with everything you need to know about RVing in Ontario. They are called the Ontario RV dealers association and are up to date with anything that is government oriented regarding RV regulations, news, RV shows, RV sales and shows. As well you are able to become a member so you may get up to date updates right to your email. I highly recommend checking this web site out as it will save you trouble in the long run.

My Walk Down Yonge Street

This is about my lovely trip to Toronto when I decided to take a walk down Yonge Street and see what I could find. The CN Tower and The Eaton Center where just two of the great things that I did.
This is about my lovely trip to Toronto when I decided to take a walk down Yonge Street and see what I could find. The CN Tower and The Eaton Center where just two of the great things that I did.
When I traveled to Toronto last summer I booked a hotel in the heart of downtown, right on Dundas and Yonge Street and very close to the YD square. Let me tell you, Toronto is the New York of Canada as it reminded me of it very much so. I could see this bustling area with restaurants, buskers and stores. As I walked through the square I saw a big building with stores in the front that looked like a mall. Well, to my delight and surprise, it was a massive mall that seemed to never end. There were stores as far as the eye could see. I then remembered that the Eaton Center was on Yonge Street, so I asked a passer-by if this was indeed the Eaton Center and indeed it was. I shopped around for a bit and grabbed some street meat to fill my empty belly. I then continued to walk down the extremely busy street in the middle of a blistering Saturday afternoon. I was noticing that it felt like the buildings where almost eating me as I walked closer to the Lake and then suddenly a bit of a clearing started to take place and there it was the needle in the clouds, the CN Tower. I picked up the pace as I was getting excited to test my man hood and lay across the famous glass floor. I finally arrived to the CN Tower and the price of admission was reasonable and it had friendly staff. I did lie across the floor and I highly recommend this if you have never done it before. All in all, my walk down Yonge Street was fantastic and I could do it two more times and still not see everything.
Lying down on the glass was a bit nerve racking, would you be able to do it?

How to decide the Right RV for you

“If you think about it, the ‘right’ RV is the one that will take you where you want to go and let you do the things you want to do.”

When you are on the hunt for a new RV, it is important to shop smart – find one that best suits your needs and your budget. Consider your interests. Start by asking yourself a few questions such as ‘What will I be using this RV for?’ and ‘Where will I be going and what will I be doing when I am there?’. In order to be effective in your search define your needs to help stay in budget. This includes adequate storage, sleeping and eating space. Although particular options may be more of a necessity for some and a luxury for others.

The two types of RV’s:
Towed RV’s – Can disconnect their tow-vehicles and use them for sightseeing. Additionally you are able to use your tow-vehicle 365 days a year.

Self-propelled RV’s – Offers on-the-road comfort and convenience and easy maneuverability.

Which RV would you prefer? Any suggestions for a new RVer?

Why RV travel in Ontario?

The reason to RV travel in Ontario is because you can truly go anywhere or stop anywhere without leaving the comforts of your own moving home. It also saves money from hotels or motels and you easily can make friends in the RV community.
RV driving through Ontario is as magnificent as RV driving anywhere in the world. The scenery is outstanding and the places you will see are unbelievable. You can go from Ottawa, Toronto, Windsor, Thunder Bay, and many more, but the real reason you go RVing is for the spots a little off the beaten path that you would not ordinarily see. One of the best things about RV travel is that you can bring the whole family and you don’t have to worry about where you’re sleeping or where your next bathroom break is going to be because everything is in your RV. If you don’t have an RV, you can easily find RV rental stores in most major cities. You will not regret RV travel through Ontario because there is so much to discover in our great province.

Would you ever consider an RV rental anytime in your life?

Ottawa’s Best Restaurants

I love to eat; I am also traveling to Ottawa in the near future. I was wondering what the food in Ottawa was like and also if there is any Ottawa food trucks?

My favorite food to eat is of course a big fat juicy steak, but I also love to try new things. I just recently tried alligator and frogs legs (they really do taste like chicken), so I am always up for anything new and I mean anything. But if someone could tell me what Ottawa’s best restaurants are that would be greatly appreciated. Anything from fine dining to diners, I love to try it all, especially the local restaurants that only the locals know about, those tend to be the best. I wam also on this new food truck high and was wondering if there are and Ottawa food trucks? I have this local food truck that serves the best burgers you have ever had. I mean it; I never knew a cow could taste so good. So any information on any of these questions would be greatly, greatly appreciated. GOOD EATS EVERYONE!!!!!!

Also does anyone know the average price for local Restaurants?

Great Camping Tips

I just went camping in Ontario over the weekend just in place in the wood with no running water and bathroom just a spontaneous trip. I did how ever come back with a lot of knowledge of gear for camping that you need.
This experience was fun but I did not have some necessities that I should have brought. I have so great camping tips here is some of the gear for camping that I should have brought. A camping stove run on propane, I thought I could get by without one but I was wrong. Another thing is a bigger tent, I have a small tent that fits two but it was very crowded and I you could not play card games or anything else like that. I think a four man tent would be better for two people; you would be able to enjoy yourself much more. Also camping in Ontario and I guess anywhere you NEED bug spray I mad this fatal mistake and I paid for it, I don’t think the mosquitoes near my camp site will have to eat for months. Another thing that would be helpful is to go to a national park or a set up camp site, this may cost some money but you will have running water and a toilet.
Hope this helped, is there any other vital gear for camping that I missed?

Top 5 Places in Ontario to Go

I love traveling everywhere in Canada, but I would love to travel in Ontario above all. These are the top 5 places I would love to go to in Ontario.
Ontario is so vast and has the Capital of Canada and of course the major city of Toronto. In this blog we will go through the list of 5 places to go when someone will travel in Ontario.
Well let’s start with the #5 destination. This would be the City of Ottawa. The reason for this is, well it’s the Capital of Canada and there are plenty of things to see such as Parliament, Museums and not a bad night life.
The #4 place is Windsor. Now many people don’t really think to travel to Windsor, but it really is a beautiful place. It is located right on the Windsor River with a beautiful view of Detroit; there are some great old buildings to see as well as good shopping. And if you are up for a little extra adventure, there are Windsor River boat cruises and Detroit is a short drive away.
The #3 place is Thunder Bay; it is a bit in the middle of nowhere, but it is a great city. You have historical sites like the Terry Fox Monument and the Hoito (old Finnish restaurant that is a staple breakfast place for locals). You can drive 20 minutes in any direction from the center of city and be in the wilderness and be fishing in minutes.
The #2 on the list is Toronto; the big city as most would call it. Toronto is a magnificent place for shopping, nightlife, museums and pretty much anything you can think of when it comes to something you want to do. I would suggest a nice walk down Yonge Street, to go to a Blue Jays game and after dine in one of hundreds of different restaurants you have to choose from.

Now, if I was not such a country bum I would have put Toronto first, but I am what I am and our #1 Ontario destination is Muskoka, particularly Bala. People do think that this little sliver of paradise is for the rich and famous, but they are wrong. There are many affordable camping sites and cottages to be explored. It is so beautiful out there and you have the convenience of the nearby cities; Parry Sound and Barrie, which are not too far away. It is hard to explain in words how a beautiful a summer day is out there, so after you read this blog I suggest you pack up and go there!!!!

Or do you have a different place you go when you travel in Ontario I have not mentioned?
